Birmingham Trip:
The Flag arrived in the town of Birmingham amid large crowds of people with Heritage 6th grader Alex Lacy, his mom Jill, brother Aaron, and band director, Bill Wynn, on Friday February 11, 2011. I wondered are all these people here for the 5kBR race like me? I soon found out that these people were there for the Brad Paisley/ Darius Rucker concert being held in the Birmingham Arena very near the start of our race. I also had a great view of the downtown area through the glass windows of the elevator at the Sheraton Hotel!
On Saturday morning my companions woke me up very early for the 5kBR race. The 5kBR is a benefit to Kid One Transport, a non-profit organization that provides transportation for children and expectant mothers in Alabama to any scheduled appointment to improve their health - medically, mentally, or physically. We were able to get a couple of pictures of Jill & Alex with me in front of the Birmingham Museum of Art (the beginning of the race). Then Mr. Wynn made me take a picture with him and a huge statue. On the way home, I was able to see the crowds of people entering the World of Wheels exhibition in the Birmingham Arena. All in all this was and eventful couple of days! I can’t wait to go back & visit the awesome town of Birmingham again!
